Kyoto Bunkyo University is seeking to fill one position for a non-tenured full-time English teacher, qualified to teach communication and reading classes in English, on a renewable four-year contract. In addition, a candidate must be able to conduct introductory seminars for first-year students in Japanese. The position is either as Associate Professor or Lecturer. |
Content of work Responsibilities: |
(1) To teach five (or six) 90-minute English classes (Communicative English, Grammar and Reading) and to conduct one (or two) introductory seminar(s) for first-year students in Japanese
(2) To participate in examination-related work and educational and research activities
(3) To serve on various committees and carry out specific administrative tasks as requested by the Dean of the Faculty |

| Qualifications |
(1) Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in the fields of English-language pedagogy (including applied linguistics, second language acquisition theory, etc.), linguistics, English-language literature, area studies (English-speaking countries) or other related fields. Applicants who do not hold a Ph.D. degree are at least required to have completed Ph.D. course work in one of the fields mentioned above.
(2) Applicants whose first language is Japanese or any language other than English must have a fluent command of English enabling them to conduct classes in the language. In the case of applicants whose first language is English, they must have a fluent command of Japanese allowing them to conduct introductory seminars for first-year students in Japanese. All nationalities are welcomed.
(3) Applicants must have a minimum of three academic publications.
(4) Applicants must have a minimum of three years’ teaching experience in Japan at the university level.
(5) The successful candidate will be requested to live in or near Kyoto.

| Selection process: |
(1) Selection of applicants from submitted documents
(2) Short-listed candidates will be asked to come for a bilingual interview, to teach a demonstration lesson and to write mock English examination questions.
*Short-listed candidates whose first language is Japanese or any language other than English will be asked to give a 15-minute English lesson in English. Those whose first language is English will be invited to give a 15-minute lecture in Japanese on their major field(s). All short-listed candidates will be asked to write mock English examination questions during a 30-minute period.
